Need help removing Immediate Payment!

I recieved this message from a Canadian buyer today,

"hi i wanted to buy acouple things from you,can you combine shipping on them? it won't let me request a total because your listings require immediate payment"

I have never asked for immediate payment and I can't see it on my listing and I have no idea how to remove it. Maybe with the new listing page I have somehow added it, but I need it off as soon as possible.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

I removed mine, but I still have some issues with combining but I figured it can't hurt! In case you ever do accept offers you could combine them also if you have in un-checked.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

I am very curious of the answer to this also! I have had a problem with combining shipping on Buy it Now items for a very long time. I had many conversations with eBay about this, they always confirmed I was set up the right way and it should be working for me yet most of my buyers complained of the same problem. It is part of the reason I kept using so many auctions (I could always combine those). For some reason there were always some people who could still "request total" but most said they could not. At one point I was told if they were "putting it in their cart" it could only be done from a computer not the app but I had buyers confirm it didn't work either way.

I recently had a buyer who wanted to combine a few items and since I always have this problem I tried what I used to do in this situation and added the "Make an Offer" button which then allows you to send invoice. However in my case the shipping charge didn't carry over so I would be leary of trying that again.

I do hope you get it worked out and will look back here to see the advice of some of the wise ones on here but wanted to let you know you're no alone with this problem!

If I get a question like that for combined, I ask which items they want, then give them a combined shipping quote and tell them that if they buy those items I will immediately refund the extra shipping from the BIN.

Or if it is a lot, I will set up an exclusive listing for them with those items and the combined shipping cost.  There is a small risk with this if the individual items are still listed - if you feel the buyer is serious that can be managed by hiking the price on the individual items so they don't sell.   Then if the sale does not go through you can drop the price back down.

I have been listing a large amount of cross stitch (with lots to go!) and multiples are pretty common and those approaches have worked for me anyway.

Yes, that is what I have done, but it shouldn't be that way, I clearly state in my listing that I combine shipping and explain how to do it. I have never had anyone tell me before that they get a message that I have Immediate Payments on my listing.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

The require immediate payment preference is sort of hidden in the new listing tool. Revise listing to turn immediate payment on or off by scrolling down until you see "payments by ebay", clicking on that
opens the immediate payment on/off preference.

I've no experience with using business policies since I don't use them. If you are opted in I suspect the Payment Policy probably contains an immediate payment required on/off choice. The payments policy choice might even over-ride whatever is set by revising individual listings.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

Under Selling Preferences, Buyer Management there is a box at the bottom of the Blocked Buyers page that says "Require buyers to provide payment method before they make an offer". I don't have mine checked off and I don't think that would be the issue in your case since offers weren't involved but you could see if that box is checked off just in case. I could have sworn there used to be another place/option where it said immediate payment for Buy it Now (I remember checking in the past) but I couldn't find that anywhere now.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

Does that mean that I have to revise all 650+ listings, is there a way to completely remove them all?

I double checked and mine isn't checked off but I still have a problem with Buy it Now items. I always find it interesting that many people don't have business policies set up. I never set any up at the beginning, they were always just there! However I have modified and added some over the years (shipping). I just assumed since they were automatically set up (and with defaults) that it was how it had to be done and that we could modify them if need be. If it's relevant I started selling about 9 years ago and it was a hold different world on eBay then! The first four or five years was easy peasy to combine shipping (or do most anything for that matter). Maybe this is only an issue for those with policies.

It's not a dumb question, things change almost on the daily! If you go to "Account" under category "Selling" it's the very last one after Business Policies and Shipping Preferences.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

Thank you SO much for all your help. The "Require buyers to provide payment method before they make an offer"  was checked off, but I am not quite sure what that means. Should I remove the check?

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

I do the opposite, all my BINs have immediate payment so it is more likely I will have to do the work around.  The vast majority are not multiple sales though.  Some folks buy more than one then message asking about combo shipping.

For some listings I do include that shipping will be combined and any shipping overpayment will be refunded.

I recall being prodded to give business policies a try way back as a turbo lister user and I did go back and forth with them a couple times before permanently discarding them.
Out of curiosity I explored my selling preferences just now and found an invite to opt-in to business policies. According to the info provided there, if I chose to start again with business policies I wouldn't be locked into using them forever, I could opt-out again if I wanted to.

Thank you! I don't recall any message about business policies but I've never been a turbo lister or used any specific tools, maybe that is the difference. I generally only have 25 - 40 listings at a time maximum and use sell similar or re-list. I realize a lot of you guys have listings in the hundreds or thousands so my doing one at a time method may be why it has never changed for me. Good to know it can be opted out if need be but I'm okay for now. I don't have any listings going right now (I tend to take blocks of time off when I have too much going on in other areas) which is why I only use "Re-list" or sell similar. This must be the difference. Thanks for checking it out!

Made an interesting discovery the other day atleast for Shippo postage. Not sure how it works with eBay labels.  If a buyer purchases 2 or more items and makes 1 payment it is easy to combine the orders when creating a label. If they make 2 payments a little bit more difficult to combine unless it is US/Intl. Then you just have to update the customs to include additional lines. I've addressed this with Shippo and they are considering adding this option. Canada you just increase the weight/measurements. Easy peasy. When you are done you can update the tracking field to include for any additionally purchased items.

The concept of combined shipping should not be such a nightmare with so many loopholes to get caught up in. This is something eBay definitely needs to fix so it works smoothly for EVERYONE on ALL platforms!!! It's starting to feel like buyers keep ending up in the checkout for 1 item or less and all the other checkouts are closed.

Up until several years ago I was relatively comfortable tinkering with settings. Now with all the non stop changes eBay has been dropping on us with a limited amount of pre testing..... not so much. Making any sort of small change can cause major work for a seller. Why I have soooo hesitant to touch Business Policies with a 10 meter pole. My guess is many others feel the same way. Not good when undo or disenrolling in a new feature is not always an option.

Re: Need help removing Immediate Payment!

I agree lotz! I don't make any changes there either unless absolutely necessary. Most of my policies were set up years ago (and being completely technically challenged I never set them up to begin with, they were already there!). The one plus side to having my shipping policies in place is I have read here often about people who can't find shipping options they used to see and incorrect info etc. At least with mine (only using my shipping policy) for whatever bizarre reason they've always still been there okay even after the new  listing tool. I never did anything fancy - only a few shipping policies so I can change my mind between selling to only Canada and US or to everyone including International (and occasionally Local Pickup if someone asks). Everything else was already set up. Payments section changed when Managed Payments started by I never changed that part myself either, it was automatically changed since PayPal was no longer an option. You are right, probably many people don't want to mess with anything else new if they don't have to, but for me that's the only way I've known!

What I forgot to include was the not knowing if you change something in settings how it will affect both older listings and new ones. I have found listings where I have updated my personal settings but no change is showing with a random listing test. With many of variety of changes and new options it appears some may be conflicting with others. Hard to confirm when 1 has 100's of listings.  Put another way...Does making a change over ride something it shouldn't.  Just difficult to know what the consequences will be by making a minor change.

eBay needs to understand when a listing was created originally, it was created correctly and accurately.  Going forward, heaven knows!! (We won't discuss where eBay has eliminated a category and dropped items into a different categories. &%$# Pardon my Swahili)
