New "Item Sold" Notification Email PT II

Just noticed that of course, not only is the buyers name/address missing from the new notifications but, the eBay sold email only shows the item cost, Nothing at all about the shipping/handling/etc.

Example.     eBay Notification Email

Congratulations, your item has been sold and it's paid for.     Paid: C $15.00   (well, no, not really)

Paypal Notification   (same sale)                                            You received a payment of $20.50 CAD from (buyer's name, real name)

If all your items are free shipping, this would mean SFA to you.

Same site-wide or am I just the lucky one getting this Ball of Confusion?

Yes you are correct. I just compared an eBay Sold email from last month to a current one and the current one only displays the buyer's eBay user name and feedback. Me thinks eBay intentions are very clear= no contact with the buyer aside of eBay messaging.

I looked at my old notifications.

The Sale price is all that my old eBay notifications showed.

So not seeing the shipping cost is the same as the old notification style.

Is this a dotcom thing? Mine on ebay.ca still say the same thing as always. We're talking about the ebay message as opposed to the one from paypal, right?

Oh, I get it now. The buyer's address and email is missing.

And the buttons are new.

Right.

Is this a big deal? Did we need that information? It's all still available elsewhere and maybe better it's not on the email which could be intercepted or used inappropriately like for personal unsolicited newsletter email lists.

It is just a way Ebay thinks they can stop all non Ebay communication.

As far as I am concerned it is not a big deal. I just leave the emails in my folder until payment is verified and then I delete them. I don't use shipping labels so that does not matter either.

Just Ebay playing more lets keep programmers busy with useless stuff so they don't have to fix bugs and glitches, or the cart.

Whatever Ebay wants they get whether sellers like it or not.

To some, probably not. To many, perhaps not.  To me and the way I prefer doing things, it's a deal, yes.  I had always used the eBay notification to send my "thanks for your purchase, shipping their specific item on a specific day and, est arrival time, enjoy your day" email which now, not knowing where they are, I cannot accurately do as I did, said the do-do. Or doh doh?  Do wah diddy either way..  It will now be one extra step for mankind. Well, for me anyways Huge deal?  Nah. Deal, yeppers.

Patiently waiting until someone chimes in with "hey dumb-dumb. just click on their user name and can find the country they are from."  And yes, they would be right but, (isn't there always a but?) their name, their name, their name, whereforeartthou their name?

A few times I've noticed that the buyer's Paypal and eBay address are different and contacted the buyer to confirm where to ship... and if I remember correctly the address to ship to was the eBay address so now I guess I no way to check and if the Paypal address is wrong I'll end up sending it to the wrong place.

So I agree that I prefer to see that info. and confirm with the buyer if they are different.

When they're different, always go with PayPal. You'll lose your Seller Protection faster if you don't.

After payment, I don't think that it is possible for the 2 addresses to be different. The address shown on the order details page is the payment address so that is what you also see on Paypal. If you've looked at the ebay address before the item has been paid, then yes, that could change when they pay.

I think that in the past  it may have been possible to see two different addresses but it changed at least a couple of years ago.

I've seen two different addresses (eBay email vs paypal) as recently as 2 months ago. With the new email format, that won't happen any more.

But the PayPal address will override the eBay email
address on those occasions when it's different prior to payment. The buyer address on the Sales Record will match the one used to pay. In my experience.

Are you sure that they had already paid? When the buyer checks out they choose the correct address on eBay so that address carries over to PP and is considered the payment address.  Before they pay we probably see either their ebay registered address or  the last address they used when they made a purchase. I'm not sure how that part works but on the order details page on eBay you should see the same address as on paypal...if payment has been made.

It isn't really the PP address, it's the address I would choose on eBay when I paid.  For example when I click on add cart and then checkout, I could change my address there.  That address may not even be on record on PP but if I have it set up as one of my ebay addresses, I can use and PP will then show that address.

I am agreeing with what you are saying...it's just that the term PP address makes it sound as if that is your PP registered address and it is really the payment address that we want, regardless of what you registered with.

Correct. I recall that we determined through experimentation that if a user wanted their stuff shipped to an address outside Canada, the user had to create that address on eBay as an alternate first and then use it when paying. That way, it becomes the address associated with the PayPal payment. While the buyer may be using their Primary address when shopping, they can switch to their alternate when paying. It's the PAID address to which it must be shipped, the one on the PayPal email which, you're right, has to actually be registered first as an alternative address on eBay.

I've been using the term 'PayPal address' to mean 'the eBay address used when checking out with PayPal' which isn't technically the 'address necessarily registered to PayPal'. There is a subtle difference but it's one that does deserve clarification. Thank you for pointing that out.

Just as an add on to this,  when I now do an email search by buyers real name in my own email to find a specific sale, it will now only show the PP email.  Yes, I could "easily" click on the link to the item, then click on the "View Item History" (if I had more than one of this item), then click on "more actions" then click on "View Order Details.  Piece of Key Lime Pie it is.  Ya, I know, not a huge biggie but, argh and an arf.
