Right now postage through chit chat is $7.44 CDN for media mail. It cost about .50 for the envelope and supplies etc so that would be $7.94 to break even. What would you charge for shipping considering that I pay about 15% in fees? I was thinking 8.50 CDN but I would be losing about .75 on each item. Or would you just raise the price to $9.00 where I would only lose .30?

For my CDs (and other similar Lettermail-eligible items) I do Free Shipping domestically (Lettermail); $8 Standard Shipping to U.S. and $13 Economy Shipping internationally. I list on .CA so prices in CAD.
The way I figure it, if under 100 g I'm paying $1.74 in postage domestically (so net loss of $1.74 since I do Free Ship). To the U.S. I can do Small Packet for $8.52 (based on the current fuel surcharge) so I have a net loss of 52 cents there. And the max I would pay to any other country would be $13.45 (but many countries are less than this) so I have a net loss of 45 cents at maximum (but to most countries I'm actually making money on the shipping there).
To be honest I'm not factoring in eBay fees when I do calculations like this. I don't even have to pay any FVF on shipping since I offer free shipping domestically (therefore, 0% FVF on my international shipping). Packaging costs are negligible for me - a bubble envelope is like 20 cents.
If the package is 100-200g then it costs me $3.35 domestically (net loss $3.35); $10.40 to the U.S. (net loss $2.40) and maximum $14.73 Internationally (net loss of maximum $1.73).
Actually, having written this all out, I now see I can lower my International rates a bit to make them more in line with my loss from offering free shipping domestically. Hmm... something to think about.

For me, it is very seldom that CD weighs under 100 grams, Usually about 140 grams therefore it cost me $3.19 + tax for $3.35. I tried free shipping a long time ago and because I run a lot of sales, it didn't work for me.

I'm currently charging CA$6.50 and using USPS First Class Package (now Ground Advantage), it's so close to the MM rate for a single CD that I don't bother with MM except for LP's or m ulti item orders. I also buy my USPS labels directly from Stamps.com instead of using Stallion/ChitChat (the later has really awful exchange rates that they apply, the former is better but still too much if you are counting the nickels and dimes)
I really need to increase the price but I don't sell a lot of CD's at the moment (more Cassettes) and given how poor sales are I try to stay competitive on shipping with US Sellers. Instead of raising my shipping charge I've been gradually increasing the price of my popular items.
Within Canada I charge $5 for a cd, First Class Letter shipping at CA$3.19 which leaves enough to cover fees & packaging with about a dollar left over.
Bubble envelopes cost me less than 20 cents, three years ago less than 15 cents, at 50 cents you are paying too much, are you buying by the case?

Just an fui, media mail is not available on new chitchat accounts. Older accounts have it grandfathered in, for now anyways.

I'd go for $9.99 USD with Free Shipping.
That's $12 or so Cdn and my procurement cost was a loonie (now $80c USD).
My cost for shipping is very low because I use mint postage stamps purchased at a discount.
And I don't track.
