eBay charging for shipping fees 7 months later. Is this fair?

eBay ding me for shipping label I purchased from Canada Post, seven months later?
Not fair. Why the delay. Had no idea It was not paid for after purchase. Seven months a long time to reconcile this. Should I be entitled to a refund from Canada Post via eBay for delaying charges for no reason? Parcel was delivered in four days

Well, you bought the label, the order was delivered and you weren't charged for it, backthen. Therefore, you have to pay for it now. It sucks, but eBay seems to be in the right in this case.

There was a 'glitch' and this happened to a few labels. It sucks but you did buy the label and are obligated to pay for it.

We identified a technical error on our platform which meant that some eBay fees and selling costs, including charges for postage and return labels were not applied to sellers' accounts from July to November, 2024. Normally, these would be charged at the time of the transaction or the label being generated. We sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused.

To correct this error, the missing postage label costs will be applied to your account and billed on January 22, 2025. The other missing charges for eBay fees, return labels and other selling costs will not be charged to you.

Got ours today too.  Had seen someone get a similar notice/charges in December but it stated the other fees were going to be handled seperately later.

I was wondering if you or anyone reading this can tell me if you use expedited lite?  I suspect the additional label fees have something to do with that service.  I guess we will find out soon.

I ask as I may have identified the problem and have written about this on the community.  It is currently being investigated and hoping my conclusions are correct. If so our problems may go away.

Alternatively it is as stated and nothing to worry about other than the realization we all have to pay what was properly owed.

No, I got today a late charge for US TP, purchased in August. Personally, I don't have any problem with late charges and I wonder, why so many do.

It's almost like a special promotion, kind of "buy now, pay 6 month later" 😆

I had a discussion with ebay help on this particular topic yesterday. If you go to your all transactions page and click on the tab at far right called Charges and Payments you may or may not have one of these belated charges. I did. How it is identified is the big problem. My charge came through Dec 14th. After doing the digging I determined it was for a postage label created Aug 1, 2024.

This is how it displays:

From Tangerine Bank ending in XXXX
For accrued selling costs????

If you click on the transaction it is attached to a memo number but no actual specific details.Because the label page only goes back 90 days/3 months you are unable to mate the transactions. A problem with the way a majority of how eBay displays historical data.

I received that email message the OP referenced. You can only wait until Jan 22, 2025 to confirm if you have more of these mystery charges.

The solution I came up with ages ago was to print the display of each charge and attach to my Order with shipping document as a permanent record. You have to make sure you choose 1 copy only. Currently you get 5 copies. At 1 point it was 9 but it has fluctuated over the last year.

In other words, welcome to the world of wait and see tape delay eBay billing. Why it has been mentioned by multiple users the inconsistent times for the  ebay's billing of label charges and with why sellers have been asking for years for eBay;s display of charges to include a breakdown of the charges. Be they an original charge or an audited shipment. Not just what states the "estimated" amount.  As an fyi on dot com you see this version. A cost breakdown which really isn't a breakdown. But it does show the original measurement data.

Can you imagine the whackadoodle ebay imposed interest rate for the buy now pay later billing system? 😲

I'm curious to see if it's labels that weren't being charged for or if they decided it was labels that they under charged for.  We do a lot of fedex.

LOTZ is way more helpful than eBay themselves, as usual, which is not surprising. LOL

Following your steps, I see 2 refunds from December that I gave back to buyers during the CP strike, as well as 3 labels which they say I didn't pay for in November. Those are the exact cost of the 3 labels, not anything like an overage charge, etc.

I had to do detective work using the emails they sent-out for "we sent your payout" to align the items they said I was never charged-for, but if I look at the payout button attached to the email link from Nov, there is no label charge for 2 of the 3 labels, so those 2 labels do match-up with what is currently under Charges and Payments.

However, for the third label, I cannot find out whether they truly did or did not charge me. It says the label cost came out of my available funds, so that would require more digging than I currently have time-for.

For the 2 refunds they gave me in Dec, it says they were sent to my CC, but as I have no paper receipt from that yet, that will also need to be corroburated by checking my statement online.

They don't overcharge. I verified some of my late CP charges - everything seems to be OK. They were just late, that's all.

I have to praise here our CP for quick refunds for cancelled labels - the refunds came quickly, just after 2-3 days.

Personally, I didn't even notice the additional charge. I did only wonder, why the price was different: 8.04 instead of 8.02 😊

As of late I have had labels charged before being dropped off and at the other end of the rainbow several days after being delivered. Anything that did qualify for an audit can be whenever they so happen to choose to forward the bill. Can be a week later or 2 months. As I recall I have had 2 but very small. Fortunately. Measure twice...3 times if it's borderline and proof until you are blue in the face or absolutely positive.

They send for all sellers and was (automatically) and if you have any amount to pay should be in this email. I contacted with eBay CS this morning and they said that nothing to pay from my end.Received exactly the same email as yours so don't worry.Regards

Yup, I got my two charges today. They were from September and October of last year. The amounts were correct to the penny, just hadn't been charged yet. At least I had a heads up the date they would be charged because of the email they sent a week or so ago. Hopefully whatever issue caused all these missed charges has been fixed (we can dare to dream).

From what I was reading it sounded like the window for this glitch started some time in July and ended in August. So guess later than had been reported. Did you see any special eBay notes explaining the charges?

Thanks @msau4301

I had one created Aug 1. Billed in Dec. Referenced the order number but not tracking. Basically showed up as a random charge with an eBay only reference number. Showed up under charges and payments. In checking now there has been an added tab called REPAYMENT. My tab is empty. Your results may vary.

For my part, it show labels being charged and when I view the detail of the charge, it's from October and September orders.

I have 4 of them, right now. It shows in "All Transactions" directly. Clicking on "View" next to the transaction, it shows the "Label reserved" date as the moment we actually bought them.

I don't really care, since I bought them, of course I must pay them. Just wish this bug will be fixed in the future, it's just a bit annoying having them being processed months later. 😉
