found a special candy

hey guys,

Please nobody make fun of me if this is a dumb idea. But found something real unique in my bag of maynards gummie bears.

I found a brown gummy bear which I believe is result of a perfecly even blend of orange and green.

I once saw a silly website showcasing odball candies or snacks people have posted on ebay, for example a uniquely shaped cheeto or candy.

I looked it up and saw plenty of listings ranging from $50 - 5000.

Even more shocking is how some of them had quite high bids, but I just assumed it wss a bunch of auction trolls.

So I am just curious if anybody here has any real intel on this niche market or if its all just smoke & mirrors?

Something tells me its too good to be true to expect anybody would actually pay me any of money for it, but I thought I better ask on here before I fully give up hope.

your thoughts?

I suspect that the majority of those "weird food" auctions you see end up with non-paying winners, but who knows.

Snap a few photos and throw up a listing, maybe some stupid person will buy it from you lol. You don't really have much to lose lol. As my late father would always tell me: "there are a lot of people out there with more money than brains".

Set your opening bid at a price you would be contented to get. It might go higher.  Or not.

If you decide to go with Fixed Price instead of Auction you will miss the thrill bidding but you can add Immediate Payment Required.

Remember if you use Free Shipping (which buyers love!) that you will still be paying to ship and this is the kind of silly purchase where tracking is a Good Idea.

If you choose to list make sure you take a peek at the eBay policy for listing food, just to be on the safe side. Not sure what the rules are on open packages etc or if it would fall under that segment.

Alough the intentions may be good for listing a so-called rarity in the candy world, I would think the item would have to be listed as a collectible/non-edible and/or gag gift as there are  risks involved in listing such a commodity. Perhaps enclosing the item in a tamper proof sealed capsule might work...

That's what I was thinking too or mark if for display purposes only. Not for consumption. I have watched that TV show Tasting History. Not the best show to watch if you are a bit on squeamish side!!!  🤢

Yeah, I've seen a YouTube channel where the person buys sealed vintage cans of food only to consume it in front of the camera. Every episode I want to scream "Don't do it! You'll die!".

There are people who make a solid income by selling region specific foods on eBay. Think Presidents Choice branded food, or flavors of chips only available in Canada. So I guess anything is possible.

Do you mean Tasting History with Max Miller on YouTube?

Most of the things he cooks are more than edible. And he is charming.

I liked his dive into what food was served on the Titanic to the various passenger classes.

OTOH, as a Scot I actually like black pudding and haggis. And Aberdeen Butteries are what croissants  aspire to be.

Eating History. Only was 10 episodes so maybe something happened to 1 of the hosts. I think they had to have a medic on standby, just in case things went off the rails.

No, not Tasting History. I've seen his channel and I love the research he's put into each show.

This guy I spoke of, I can't find his channel now, but he would buy cans of old food from sources and test them with a reader (PH reader). If the food was deemed safe, he would taste it and even consume it.
