I thought I had finished signing up for MP, now they are asking for my social security number. Do I have to give that?

If you originally registered for eBay many moons ago on dot com, you will need to move your account over to dot ca. It's come up a few times as of late as causing a problem. Social Security is US name for sin and is required for US registration. SIN on dot ca can be skipped. You will need to talk to an agent to get your account moved over.
I believe this one covers it nicely.

Hi @triber - @lotzofuniquegoodies has the right call on this one. If your account was opened originally on .com we need to have a teammate go through and move it to be a .ca account. There shouldn't be much of anything that you need to do other than sit and wait on the phone while a teammate verifies your info and then gets it moved.
In the meantime do not enter anything in that field. Inputting gibberish information will cause the system to flag you for manual review which will take extra time and be a headache for you.
Payments-trained teammates should be able to get you moved over without too much of an issue (though @ricarmic can probably give us a better assessment as he went through this recently too).

One thing I'm confused about. Would someone who was registered on .com still be able to sign up for MP with a Canadian bank account?
06-09-2021 03:03 PM
@pjcdn2005 - that's a complexity I don't have any insight into. The scuttlebutt was that the product team was working on that - so as long as your registration information was Canadian it would let you use a Canadian bank account. I don't have a timeline on when (or if) that enhancement will be coming.
In the interim, an account's 'registration site' needs to be manually changed from .com to .ca in order to complete registration.
I'm working on having another managed payments chat in a few weeks - this would be a great question to ask them!

At this moment things remain confusing here.
My ID registration has been moved from US to Canadian.
However, the US countdown is still on, I'm still getting the messages when trying to list on any site (which are easy to bypass and ignore) but I am also still getting the countdown emails from the US side.
If I try to do anything with the links in the .COM messages, I still get flipped to the CA side and get the they're not ready for me message because according to the MP CSR my schedule was reset when the ID registration was changed.
I've not received any messages from the CA side, I'm not sure how I'll know "which side it is from" when it comes so I'll just try them all... so far the US side is offering me a 20% discount on my FVF if I do it before the 15th, I expect I won't get any deals when the CA side catches up to me.
My current plan is to ignore the emails and messages as instructed. I will begin to worry if I am unable to list items which would infer to me that the US countdown still is acting on my account moreso than it should. The MP CSR said it wasn't so I am going to try to remain calm in the meantime......

My registration did come up on .ca even though I only sell on .com. I think I may have been confused when it said Social Secruty Number instead of SIN. It seems to be going through alright, I am just waiting for the 2 small amounts from eBay to be put into my bank account so it will be completed, HOPEFULLY!!

i'm confused again.
how do i talk to a 'payment specialist' at ebay, to get my country of registration changed, before i am signed up for MP? I have to be signed up for MP in order to be able to contact a payment specialist on the phone.
Is there any way for me, on my own, without contacting ebay to confirm my country of registration is still the US and not Canada? I am not getting any $15 offers to sign up, nor any countdown emails. I got one threatening email on June 1, a week later my ability to list and revise was disabled and that's it...no other messages about MP from Ebay. This tells me that i may already have my registration switched to Canada, as the US messages from Ebay about MP seem to be gentler, more spread out and loaded with incentives.
I am getting very frustrated by this lack of clarity with the sign up process and the rather harsh treatment Canadian ebayers seem to be getting versus US ebayers.

You'd be better to start your own thread than to attach to a thread about SSN/SIN, a completely different problem.
At the moment all your listings indicate you are still taking PP, since there is no tell-tale GooglePay icon on your listings.

Hi tyler@ebay. Went through three people just now including a managed payments specialist and none of them had a clue how to do this for my selling account (not this ID). On the ebay.ca seller dashboard it states I can't sign up for managed payments and the messages for sign up have come from ebay.com with ebay.com links that are forcing the signup process to go through the US side. Like others our selling account is from 2000 and presumably is setup with the country of registration as the US despite all business information/profile being set to Canadian. Reps are saying to change it in the profile, which is already set to Canada so that won't change anything. Can you help point me in the right direction here? Bit of a pain as it is forcing a registration by the 15th as a US account which which I can't do.

Hi @hlmacdon - I wish I had a different strategy for you on this, but when it comes to payments I can only advise you to request another contact from a payments-trained teammate.
I'll make sure that what you've experienced is shared with the appropriate teams to make sure that Customer Support is trained to help properly.

Thanks tyler@ebay . I did get ahold of a fourth rep and what they got back from their inquiries was that all Canadian sellers should only enroll via ebay.ca. None of the 4 reps seem to have any idea how to change registration site country. They were passing along my information to escalations to opt out for now to hopefully prevent listings being taken down and the blocking of the ability to edit listings. I don't know if that will actually work or not but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
It would be helpful if you could arrange a well informed payments rep to participate in answering questions on the weekly chat as there are quite a few of us sellers in the same boat. @ricarmic was able to get an anchor store rep to coordinate getting his changed but not all of have that option and are having difficulty getting any information from the payment trained reps. The main concern we all have is getting registration links that only point to .com. In the Canadian seller dashboard the payments section shows as ineglible for signup yet, whereas the US side allows for signup. Adding to the confusion the emails are coming from Ebay Canada but with .com registration links. Based on your guidance and the experience of some other sellers who got pulled into the US payments workflow by using those .com links all of us are hesitant to even start the process through those .com links and get accidentally pulled into the US system. With the threat of imminate ending of ability to list and edit listings it is a bit of a frustrating mess.

@hlmacdon - very good points raised here. I'm working on having a payments expert join us for a weekly chat in a few weeks (depending on their schedule), so keep an eye out for that!
Also I heard back from the payments team on situations like yours, and it seems there have been some changes to the process:
For Canadian member accounts that were registered on eBay.com, it is not necessary to change the registration site. The onboarding process has recently been adjusted to recognize the registered address which will direct the member to the proper flow based on that information.
This means a member should always use the links provided in their notification to register, even if it takes them to eBay.com. When the member goes through the registration flow it will recognize their input information and move them to the Canadian payments registration without further contacts to Support necessary.
One important point to make sure members understand is that they should make sure their registration information (name, address, country) is up to date and accurate before they begin onboarding with payments.
Hearing back on that it sounds like as long as your registration information is your Canadian address you should complete the payments registration on .com.

Certainly. I'll post my experiences and tag you when I've had a chance to go through it later today. If I encounter any hiccups or oddities I'll document those with screenshots.

Hi himacdon. If you'll recall i am in the same boat as you, in that i signed up for ebay in 2000. However, the one difference between us is that on my .ca seller hub i CAN register for MP and on my .com seller hub i CANNOT register.
My speculation is that sellers like us, who sell in Canada but originally registered on .com will get 2 invitations. One from .com and one from .ca. It seems that you got the .com invitation first, whereas i got the .ca invitation first. That's the only difference between us.
I got my warning email from ebay on June 1, advising effective immediatly my ability to list and revise was suspended (it actually happened on June 8). I was warned in the same email all my listings would be removed on June 15. I would speculate further, that since your ability to list and revise has not been disbled yet, that it won't happen to you....probably because the .com rollout seems to be a lot gentler and more spread out than the rather harsh, abrupt and chaotic Canadian rollout seems to be.
So i think you'll be ok for a while. Can't promise but that's what my gut tells me. I am shortly going to click on the .ca registration link in my ebay.ca seller hub and begin to register. It says i have 30 days to complete the process, so i'm hoping that means that if i just begin the process my ability to list and revise will be returned to me. Other posts i've read on this forum have made be question this, however. I will be hard pressed to complete registration today, so i don't know what tomorrow will bring.
I'll report back with any information that might be helpful.
What a mess. Not the way a change of this magnitude should be rolled out.
