Bought an item that is being shipped from Mississauga to Toronto, a distance of 18 miles. Shipped Expedited. Was processed at Mississauga facility Friday afternoon. Still there. No updates since Friday. Expected delivery is today, which is definitely not going to happen.
Is this just sloppy service from Canada Post or are there issues with tracking updating or the facility itself? Anyone know?

Posted on Friday.
Processed on Friday.
Expected on Monday.
It is now12:47pm.
My carrier usually delivers in the afternoon, usually around 3pm.
What makes you think the shipment will not be delivered?
If a Signature is required, the carrier may have to take it back to your local PO. They will leave a Notice of where and when the shipment can be picked up, usually the next (Tuesday) afternoon.

not coming. My carrier has come and gone. Package still has to go to Toronto facility, then Scarborough, then out for delivery. Drivers don't deliver Expedited on Monday's as they're too busy. So since my carrier is gone for the day it will not be coming today.
Canada Post had better get their act together. This is not the first time something like this has happened to me in the past few months. There are lots of small courier companies around now and they are getting pretty reliable, at least in the GTA. They're pretty inexpensive too. Also Amazon's in house delivery service is quite good and usually free. CP has ponderous service at times and they are relatively not that cheap anymore, if at all.
They reallly can't afford to lose more business to other carriers, so they need to step it up. No excuse for not being able to deliver a package 18 miles in 3 days by their vaunted Expedited service.

For high demand items (items pretty much guaranteed to sell in less than 2 or 3 months), I've often wondered about using Amazon's multi-channel fulfillment.

Doesn't Expedited Parcel have a 1-2 business day delivery standard for major urban centres?

Expedited standard is 1 day for the GTA. Can't speak for other urban centers.
As predicted, package was a no show and still no tracking updates since Friday.
Mississauga facility is the root of virtually every problem i've ever had with Canada Post, both shipping and receiving. I hoped things would get better when the new Toronto facility opened last year, and for a little while things did get better, but now Mississauga is back to giving poor service on a regular basis again.

well, when i plugged in my actual tracking number it showed the delivery standard as being delivered on the 19th, which is 1 business day, like it always has been. I am very familair with how shipping works in the GTA having received packages for over 25 years here. At any rate it's not going to be delivered in 2 business days either because the package is still in Mississauga with no tracking updates since Friday. No chance it will be delivered today either.

I'm in GTA also (Oakville) and had one completely wacky end of last month. I sent it expedited to a regular buyer about 45 minutes away. I sent it July 16 and it wasn't delivered until July 31st!) I know it usually takes 1 day to get there, 2 at most but after speaking to customer service I had to wait until July 29th to open a service ticket. Interestingly enough, the day after the service ticket was opened on 29th it showed the first update to tracking since the 17th "processed in Mississauga), and was delivered next day. No idea why it sat for 12 days not moving. Luckily my buyer was okay with the late arrival and even bought something again from me a couple of days later which arrived to her this time the next day!

yeah i've had experiences like that before too, both sending and receiving. I don't know what's up with Mississauga but they seem to be pretty shoddy at times. I suspect it's one department or section that causes all the problems but since there are multiple departments, most of the time everything goes smoothly. But get stuck with your package going to the one section/department and it's break out the solitaire cards you're in for a long wait.
I was once told by Customer Service 'maybe they have a big Amazon order to process'. Huh? All mighty Amazon takes priority over everybody else, do they.
Anyway, still no updates on my package. I needed it as a birthday gift for this evening so figuring out how to handle it. CP drops the ball again...

Hmm, interesting. I plugged in a Mississauga address and a Toronto address into the CP website’s rate calculator and it gave me a one to two day delivery standard for Expedited.
The cp calculated time and real world what actually happened have been 2 different things for ages. I have packages going to and coming from Edmonton/Calgary routinely take up to 7 days. Approx. 300 km. 100 km east of Edm. take 9 days. Had an order to Cranbrook, BC (400 km) delivered by lunch the next day. You can get the same crazy variances east to west (quick)....west to east super slow.
Someone else had recently posted about issues with tracking not working 100 %. The issue appears to be with manually entered valid tracking. The link shows anything manually entered as delivered but ebay does not show. In testing prepaid products history see consistenly no official delivered within eBay. Imagine same thing happens with registered but I never use so unable to confirm.

As a side I have dropped off shipments going to customers within Calgary and had delivery take 4 days. (Tues/Wed/Thurs). Not the 1 as quoted by CP.

Sigh... waiting for deliveries of the things you bought.... patience is required.
Not sure why, but at times Canada Post is really slow - I've bought things from Quebec and from BC and the western provinces and in general shipping time was good about a 7 days plus or minus - even though on the Canada Post website it says delivery in 4 days - I think they are being overly optimistic; as for in province delivery it says 2-3 business days and I can attest that it takes way longer than that - even in the same city it takes 5 business days at times which is really slow.
Something funny -- I recently bought something from Calgary Alberta and it has been 2 weeks since the seller put it in the mail and I'm still waiting for it - while other things that I bought (a few days later) also from Alberta had already arrived. So you have to wonder why things move slowly even shipped from the same province and city.
