What happens now that orders are in the mail with a possible expected delivery date of September 30 and early October, what happens if not received there is no way of knowing whether these items will be received after strike is over.  Will eBay delay delivery date?

In 2011-2012  everything started with a strike....  a rotating strike.  Workers stopped working in specific, selected locations each day....

This action was followed with a lockout by Canada Post..... A rotating strike was costing Canada Post.  People did not trust the union's choice of a rotating strike, and there was less mail in the postal system with each passing day

From CBC TV

..... Rural Canada Post carriers may see 25% wage hike after pay equity dispute.

..... Canada Post indicated in its second-quarter financial results that settling the pay-equity dispute could cost the corporation upwards of one-quarter billion dollars.

Then.....

It (Canada Post) said Thursday that a full accounting of the cost will be included in its third-quarter results.

The chair of Canada Post's board of directors and interim president and CEO, Jessica McDonald, calls Flynn's  (The arbitrator's)  ruling "thoughtful and detailed" and is pledging to move quickly to implement the changes.

Everything would start as of January 1, 2016.........  Nothing was finalized with a new contract in 2016.

Negotiations continue....  September 26 and a potential for the declaration of a strike by CUPW,  is just around the corner...

The pension problem in 2016 was adjusted ..... legislated  .....by the government in 2017.

It looks like the disparity, rural workers versus urban  workers will (might) be settled in 2018.

Are we close to a settlement?   What will happen next?

Very interesting.

I had strongly suspected there was something very different with this series of negotiations than the last due, in large part, to the lack of angry vitriol coming from the worker side.

I will worry about the effect this will have on rates later and be glad about the lesser potential for mail disruption now.

Also, I never bought the gender-equity argument. The jobs being compared are very different, so to me it's not about the gender of the person performing that task if the tasks are dissimilar.

But whatever, it's not my job affected.

Urban workers ere being paid on a salary basis, pair based on the number of hours worked.

Rural workers were being paid on a contract basis......  distance traveled and number of parcels delivered.

------------------------------------

Negotiations  are  close to ending.    In order to confirm what the rural workers get,   the urban workers  might have to reduce or minimize their monetary claims.

The last postal disruption was the only time I received a negative feedback because it took so long to get a package to the USA. I just ended all my listings, I'd rather have no sales than have to deal with unreasonable people who seem to be under the impression that I somehow control Canada Post.

Did you appeal it? Or did you send it untracked so that it was ineligible for appeal?

Not worrying about any of this as whatever happens, happens and I won't worry about something I can't do anything about anyway. I'll concern myself with whatever transpires, in mid-October when I return from my travels out of country.

As one of the Great Unwashed, there are some things about the One Percenters that I'd just rather not know. Separate, listened dining rooms at work. Eyeroll.

It was just a $5.00 cd so there was no tracking, but the negative went away after one year anyway.

Thank you for posting that, may we never have to see, if ebay will have our backs.

Please forgive me for staying positive, but with the pension and rural rates worked out, the big stuff has imho, already been taken care of.

With CPC having made money the last few years, even the one time charge, should not stop the two sides from hammering out a deal.

I don't believe the sky is falling, and I feel good that cooler heads will prevail.

The Rural workers have a big win.... CUPW is most enthusiastic with this win

The Urban workers might have to give up something in order for this to happen.....

This could be the current difficulty with negotiations.

From the CUPW website.  a copy of what is on that website... When could  the strike or lockout start?  (Bold and color is my option)

(1)  The Canada Labour Code provides for a three-week period, after the end of conciliation, before the parties obtain the right to strike or lock-out. This period ends at midnight on September 25, 2018. This means that the Union will have the right to strike and the employer has the right to lock us out as of 12:01 am September 26, 2018.

(2) Under the provisions of the Canada Labour Code, there must be a 72 hour notice given prior to a strike or lock-out. This does not mean that this will happen, but we all must be prepared for this possibility.

(3) It is important to be aware that as of 12:01 am September 26, the Canada Labour Code gives an employer the right to change our conditions of employment. At this point we do not know what Canada Post will do.

------------------------------------------

The question becomes ......

What will Canada Post do?

What could Canada Post to change the conditions of employment?

As a Crown Corporation Canada Post must follow specific rules...

The key wording in the Canada Post Corporation Act is that Canada Post must be self-sustaining.......

I am willing to go out on a limb here and predict there will be neither lockout nor strike this time in 2018.

Last time in 2016, it was all vitriol, hyperbole and hostility leading up to and including the periods of negotiations. This is nothing like that.

Unless someone packed a secret suitcase of TNT there are no signs apparent to me as a passive observer of explosions to come.

I'm not losing sleep over this.

Changes -- nothing immediate. Canada Post will wait.

The latest from the Canada Post news section:

Negotiations towards a new collective agreement are ongoing and we remain positive on the progress being made.

...

As for self-sustaining:  shipping rates will go up January 15, with rural areas getting hit the hardest.

I have been surprised that there doesn't seem to have been anything on the news about the possible strike, unless I just missed it.

I am continuing to sell, in the event of a strike,  will send an email to each of the buyers and explain the situation and hope they will understand the delay.

So...what happens if you ship an item, during shipping strike happens and delivery is delayed. Buyer files a Item not received as the parcel is stuck in a warehouse somewhere, does Ebay rule in favour of the buyer?. Am I supposed to refund and then ask the buyer to ship the item back on my own dime?. I guess communication is the key.....maybe.

According to eBay, if you ship with tracking and a strike/lockout happened, they would shield you from any claims or metrics/feedback.

I'm keeping my items listed regardless. If job action happens, I'll simply add some text to my listing about the job action. For higher priced items, I will add courier rates. For some items, I may offer local pickup. Just depends.
