What happens now that orders are in the mail with a possible expected delivery date of September 30 and early October, what happens if not received there is no way of knowing whether these items will be received after strike is over. Will eBay delay delivery date?

In 2011, Canada Post was also helmed by a Conservative government appointee who attempted to bring in measures to dissuade Canadians use of and faith in the corporation, such as eliminating door to door delivery. Chopra, in effect, had a mandate from Harper to slowly weaken and dismantle Canada Post as the Crown Corporation we know it. It's no secret that the federal Conservatives have no love for Canada Post in principle, and were likely quite happy to see the lockout create even shakier ground for our national postal service to stand on.
CUPW also knows that Canada Post is on shaky ground and tried suggesting measures and additional services in the last round of bargaining (such as postal banking) that would diversify its operations. Of course, adding services in this manner would fly in the face of the mandate Chopra was given, so the union's ideas were rejected.
I suspect the federal Liberals are only interested in maintaining the status quo rather than bolstering Canada Post's fortunes.

People stopped using Canada Post.
and then..... Followed ... with a back to work order by the Government
And what has that to do with 2018?
Different management. Different issues. Different government.
People stopped using Canada Post because it was closed -- what a surprise!

Postal banking is promoted because that would be more money for Canada, money that could be used to pay the workers
------------------------------------
In 2011 It was during the rotating strike that people stopped using Canada Post...
and... That is when the lockout became a reality.... Canada Post was losing money.
------------------------------------
People are concerned about the possibility of a postal disruption in 2018. People are asking workers at a postal outlet..... about this possibility and then not using Canada Post.
The longer these negotiations continue, the greater the possibility that Canada Post cannot afford to continue.
There is also a concern over the Christmas time period..... It was during the Christmas period of 2017 that Canada Post was delivering over one million parcels each day , and one can conclude this should go up with each year after 2017.
Canada Post does promote parcels in their advertising on delivery vehicles.... Delivering the on-line world..... But what happens if the online world uses a delivery option other than Canada Post?

From the CUPW website.......
Today, your National Executive Board issued what is known as a “72-hour strike notice” to Canada Post for both the RSMC and Urban units. The National Executive Board has decided that the strike will begin on Monday morning, October 22, 2018, at 00:01 should we not have reached negotiated settlements.

Welcome to a new reality........
It was very quiet over the weekend.

You betcha!
Show your customers you care... Mail your orders daily.
Rotating or not, that should still provide plenty of time for delivery.

A rotating strike begins on Monday, October 22.
A lockout occurred after about two weeks of rotating strikes in 2011-2012.
Canada Post was losing money because less people were using Canada Post
and eventually ...... the Government stepped in and ordered everyone back to work.
-------------------------------------
The closer we get to Christmas the greater the impetus to end the strike/lockout .

The day everything gets settled will reach back to January 1, 2016, and the agreement would last for 4 years..
If this is correct, then negotiations should start again on January 1, 2020

The beginning of a rotating strike by CUPW was overshadowed by the first day of legal marijuana.
The union will introduce a rotating strike. The intent of CUPW is not to inconvenience the people that use Canada Post.
The last strike started with a rotating strike..... After about two weeks, Canada Post could not afford to continue. People chose not to use Canada Post.... That is when Canada Post ended everything with a lockout. Then the government issued a back to work order....
If the same happens in 2018, then everything should most likely be over early in November....
We shall see........

WRONG.
A new contract will start from January 2018. If 4 years, then 2022.
Some of the issues being settled are under the terms of the old 2016 contract.

I just resurrected my wordings from the last strike, these are the messages my buyers will get.....I always send a message advising the item is on its way, these simply has the possible delay included. Feel free to use any of the wordings yourself that you find of use....

What ever is negotiated in 2018 could to some degree go back to January 1, 2016.
The new payment structure for rural workers is such a situation.
If a new contract extends to January 1, 2022..... it is something good for Canadian eBay sellers that use Canada Post. The situation in 2016, followed by this situation in 2018 is too much to take without a level of frustration.
The sooner negotiations end, the better it will be for all of us.

Personally I hope cpc chops up the company, let the union stand strong on that one core remaining chunk of ice; of course they will all pile on and devour it until it sinks to the bottom beneath their feet.

From the CUPW Website.....
October 18..... No response from CPC
"Since the Union issued 72-hour strike notice to Canada Post on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, there has been no response from Canada Post. Your negotiating committee is ready, willing and determined to get back to the bargaining table.
The National Executive Board has told Canada Post that we will start rotating strikes as of 00:01 Monday, October 22, 2018. The clock is ticking and yet there seems to be no urgency from Canada Post to resolve the issues that are necessary to get new collective agreements by Sunday night."

You mean you hope that the profits fr a Canadian owned business get sent to foreign owners while their Canadian workers get lower pay and can no longer afford to buy the products you sell?
At this point most people cannot afford to ship the products I sell.
Personally I think tipping points have been reached, and the Union as far as I am concerned is getting their members to shoot themselves in the feet. The Union should be concerned about protecting jobs, like the ones lost when they let CP set up stores with non-Canada Post employees - how could the Union let that happen????. I do not think Postal Workers are hard done by, and it would be in the Unions best interest to quit asking for more and more and more and instead make sure they protect what they have.
When tipping points are reached, other methods are found, as has been seen with so many high paying Union jobs, they just disappear - Way to go unions, for not seeing the writing on the wall, and letting all your members down.

Could it be that Canada Post wanted the union to go on strike.
What could be the future fro Canada Post?
All we have to do is look back to see how the strike ended in 2011-2012.
and then what?
Could this be the beginning of a new Canada Post?...
A Canada Post that is no longer a Crown Corporation........

I have no interest left in rhetorical questions about this matter.
Either there is a shutdown, or there isn't.
I'm still leaning toward the former.
