Delivery may be delayed due to public authority?

This is the first time I have seen it. I'm located in Vancouver and my items almost never go to Ottawa...

Anyone got this "Delivery may be delayed due to public authority" (item now at Ottawa) on their tracking status before? This is a repeat buyer too and her package did not go to Ottawa last time.

Delivery may be delayed due to public authority?

Canada Post started adding that to pretty much all US-bound parcels at the end of last week.

There hasn't been any official word on it, but I have to imagine it's just a potential warning that there may be delays related to incoming tariffs and slowdowns at the border. I and many others have already started noticing that things are taking a lot longer to cross into the US.

Regarding the location as Ottawa, this is not the actual location of the package, but is Canada Post headquarters location.  If the notice is the most recent status added from Canada Post, eBay will display Ottawa as being the 'Last location'.

I see, thanks, glad to know it's not an issue with the package itself.

I received that email today. Shipped from Ontario to California Mar 7th and notice received today.

No clue how it will go.

I got one today too. Also a first. Canada to USA. Also assume Tariff related. I've never seen it before either. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

@zee-chan-jpn-books

Consider it an auto update message provided by CP HQ Ottawa. They have revised the look since it first appeared on the scene. My US parcels go Calgary/Richmond/LAX. See display of how mine currently appear. For now it will be included just as a warning of "possible" customs delays. As a side note if you ever see weird out of place scan details consider those agent pressed wrong button when hand scanning. Same goes for duplicate scans. Those just happen.  You may also see randomly see "Label Correction Applied". Unable to get confirmation for reason. Possibly may cause a slight delay but does end up going on its merry way.

Just out of curiosity, does this message also show up when the tracking is viewed on the USPS website?

@marnotom!

Checked 2 recent shipments.

Shows acceptance scan Canada.

Processed Vancouver.

Origin Post is Preparing Shipment.

Processed Through USPS Facility

ISC LOS ANGELES CA (USPS)

Then forwarding on to final destination tidbits.

As btw the last item was at LA Facility  18 hours. Arrived in Dallas 48 hours after arriving in LA so relatively fast in scheme of things.

Skips part about Ottawa message.

When I have looked at Intl shipments on foreign postal websites tracking was more complete in majority of situations.

If the de minimis is removed, all the Canadian sellers selling imported USA goods are in for a rough patch. 25%+ input cost increases. Over $800 it sounds like it's already in effect.

Have received this notice as well. Only when shipping to the USA. It did not even leave the local post office when submitted and received the notice. This is a way they can will not gurantee shipping times, because it will be out of their control when it gets to US Customs and Boarder Security. For the last month all shipments coming in from the USA and out of Canada to the USA are at least a week slower unless shipped by Xpress Post (Canada) or incoming from the USA by Priority Mail Express. Those packages are not being delayed.

I don’t think any mailing services to the US apart from Xpresspost-USA have on-time guarantees.

In most destination countries Items shipped via services like CP Xpresspost or USPS Priority Express are handled differently than all other postal packages.

I recall the years of chaos in Italy (2007 - 2009), packages sent via Express services were clearing customs with no issues but all other mail was taking a month or more to clear customs. The Express packages were processed at a different facility than all others. The current situation in the US is probably similar.

Hi Zee

everything i've shipped to the USA regardless of price has had it . The odd repeat orders have now seem to be going straight thru. I also notice it also adds about 1to 2 weeks to the delivery time.

As per the CP website guarantee as follows between major centres only. Unsure when this went live again. (It was on hold during Covid and after for a time).  See additional exceptions in link. Note: Customs delays are NOT covered.

Delivery may be delayed due to public authority?

I am going through this with a US-bound package sent on April 4th and on April 8th I got the "Delivery may be delayed due to public authority Canada" message. In the 20 years I've done business shipping with them, I've never seen this message before - even during COVID. I called CP and spoke to an agent who wasn't sure what was happening and deferred to "tariffs" "possible protests" and "border concerns" as the reasons, yet my package is worth $200 and tariffs would not be applicable. I have not heard of any protests happening now that would block shipments.  The agent assured me it should get through to the US in "a few days", but almost 2 weeks later, nothing has changed. The package should have been delivered today and my customer is angry it hasn't even crossed the border. The weirdest part - I've sent 5 other tracked packages days, and one a week after that delayed one and they all got into the US without an issue. Two of them have already been delivered.

I believe much depends on which hubs(in both Canada and USA),  the shipment is being sent to/processed by....

That is just a stock message being added by CP's head office in Ottawa. Your parcel never passed through there unless that is where it started. It's just to advise there "may" be the possibilities of delays due to customs changes with all that is going on.

I received the same message today.  I too believe it's just a stock message added by Canada Post.  The reality is that they are being truthful because there's a flip-flopper south of the border and no one really knows what's going on from one day to the next.

Thanks for all the replies!

My parcels all arrived to their US buyers just fine, though I definitely am seeing a 1-2 weeks delay with the shipments. Thankfully they were all patient (I do have longer handling time set)... just that interestingly, with two of the parcels sent to same US buyer a week apart, the "newer" parcel actually arrived a couple days before the "older (sent a week earlier)" parcel arrived... the older one took over 3 weeks.
