The timeline for registering for managed payments seems to have drastically reduced. I've been reading for months how people have been able to keep listing and selling normally for a long time after being 'invited' to managed payments. At least nearly 3 months for most.
I was invited on May 4. Here is the email i just received from ebay:
You have missed the deadline to register for eBay to manage your payments and, effective today, your ability to create, relist, and revise listings has been disabled. In addition, if you do not register by June 15th, all your live listings on eBay will be removed as well. To re-enable your listing capabilities, complete the registration here.
Take these simple steps to get back to selling:
Verify your information
Provide a chequing account
Continue selling as usual
Register now
If you have questions, you can request a call from one of our Payments team members on the Help Hub here - we’re here for you.
Please click here to register for managed payments now.
This is the first i've heard of someone's listings all being ended. I was planning to start looking into registering this month, with an expectation of being forced into MP by late July....this is the timeline i've come to expect from reading other members posts.
I experimented and i am still able to list and revise but that may stop abruptly very soon.
I was going to use my regular chequing account to register with. I've seen that many people open a special account just for Ebay. Why?

Good for you. Ditto here!

The one thing that irks me the absolute most is the 25 cent extra fee they intend to charge for each separate item in a combined order. I often sell 10 or more items in one order and if eBay thinks they are going to get an extra 2.50 or more because I have made a reputation for myself by giving buyers a discount on multiple item purchases, they can think again.
_____________
There is one .30 transaction fee per order so if the buyer pays for one item the transaction fee will be .30. If the buyer pays for 20 items together, the transaction fee will be .30.
When they first started MP in the US they did have a transaction fee for each item but it hasn't been like for quite a while. You might want to read up on the current MP fees as quite a bit has changed over the last 2 or 3 years.

Also got the 15 dollar bribe today. Looks like every day there are drip messages coming in. The bottom line you don't have a choice. You can go to Kijiji and you end up paying additional money for listings which again go to Ebay since ebay owns Kijiji. Or you can go Amazon and if you feel it's hard now, it's going to be even harder there so you will be back in Ebay in no time. There isnt' many options for Canadians. Facebook marketplace search is useless, Bonanza is mostly US and small, Mercari you can't sell from Canada and same goes for OfferUp.

I was also under the impression that in the beginning when they first starting talking about leaving PayPal that it would not be fully until 2023. So that would have worked out fine for me. Once again they changed their minds and bumped it up.
I saw one newsie website that stated that "eBay will still be available to users until 2023" but the eBayinc.com announcement they link to suggests that it will be available to buyers on the Managed Payments platform until 2023, so I'm thinking it's more a matter of miscommunication than of a change of mind.

On dot com there was an assortment of offers to US sellers for signing up for MP by this or that date. Substanially higher offers compared to what dot ca sellers are seeing.

There are other choices beyond what you have referenced, albeit not much can match the likes of eBay, Amazon or Etsy for traffic, but all the same there are some smaller, lesser known sites that can work IF the seller so chooses to put the time & effort into establishing themselves on another site. I started that path about 2-1/2 years ago when eBay announced MP system would become the future for eBay...
It's taken a while, but sales on my other selling venue are increasing & that builds faith, hope & strengthens my belief that yes sellers can survive after eBay...
Sellers do have choices, alternatives, options... but must make the decision that is best for their online selling needs going forward.

Interesting. I have read a lot of info on Managed Payments. It seems every time I read it, I see somethng in the fine print which I didn't see before. I just recently read the information about the 25 cent fee per item charge. The reason it stuck in my mind was because I wasn't aware of it until then. So guess it must have been on an ebay.com board and must have been from an older thread then. And they wonder why no one really knows anymore what is exactly right or wrong? Seems like they want to keep us confused by constantly changing things. Anyway doesn't matter much to me. There are many other reasons why I don't like managed payments so this won't change my opinion one way or the other.

Regarding ...
"so I am now in managed payments but there is money owing to ebay from my last invoice to now - will I get one final invoice that will be debited from my paypal as usual or are they going to try and take that money from my chequing account? "
That's what happened when I enrolled in MP.
I enrolled as soon as I received the invite ~ mid-April (and apparently missed out on the $15 incentive some are now apparently receiving!!). New sales immediately went the MP route and mid-May my paypal account was debited for ebay's fees on sales in the first part of April.

thanks for that - that answers my question! And yes, it appears I was too prompt in my compliance too, I also missed out on the $15 bribe!

Please share more details.
I assume you have other suggestions beyod Instagram, Pinterest and self-promoted Shopify store via blogs or influencers. Your mileage may vary, if you have a product you nurture it may work. There are lot's of sellers who do arbitrage selling without specifically focussing on a product they control, so the choice is rather more limited I believe.
Would you mind to share suggestions with fellow sellers?

I just recently read the information about the 25 cent fee per item charge. The reason it stuck in my mind was because I wasn't aware of it until then.
You were not aware-- because it doesn't now exist.
It was a short term thing with dotCOM sellers (the first to be "encouraged" to sign up for MP) and rapidly removed.
This is why long threads about Managed Payments should be read only with care, and often just be ignored.
They are Zombie Threads with out of date and incorrect information.
For the record, I am signed up for MP on only one account, holding out on another, and have not been invited on the other two active accounts.

I've lost the ability (noticed the 13th of june) to Revise existing or create new listings but the existing listings are continuiing to auto-renew themselves. So I've been limiting my ending listings for the moment to ones where the quantitiy available is incorrect.

Same thing has happened to me. I had 3 sales today and payment went to my PayPal account as before. So I am leaving my listings there until eBay removes them.

My TD Bank USD checking account is now connected to MP (USD payout). It is taking 5 !! days to receive the payment from the day I initialize it.
