As a Canadian seller, can i ship DVD’s to USA?

Just got off chat with an Ebay employee, and to my dismay, apparently you can’t sell DVD’s to US?

This is huge because they would be the “big fish” market that i was planning to appeal to. Why is this the case?

Can i not sell VHS and CD’s also?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

This just gets a big “Huh?!” from me.

What were you asking this employee to prompt this response from them?

Of course you can.
As long as they're genuine and Region 1.

Nothing stopping us from shipping other region DVDs to the US,  though.  Some buyers may have multi-region players or may be able to convert the DVD themselves.

The trick, of course, is ensuring the buyer is aware that the DVD is not of the usual format.

Re: As a Canadian seller, can i ship DVD’s to USA?

Call centre clerks are notoriously bored, badly paid, and meeting a quota of callers they can handle every day.

The real problem is not the DVDs and CDs, it is the cost of shipping.

However by using LetterPost rates any package that is under 2cm thick (don't forget the packaging dimensions) will ship cheaply.

A tiny bonus is that many US sellers ship DVDs with Media Mail which is cheap by low-priority and slow. Your DVDs will move more quickly even across the border.

If you are using postage stamps (which can be purchased at a discount on eBay) don't forget the Small Packet label , which is included when you print a shipping label at home.

And add the HS Code which supposedly moves things along faster in customs. For DVDs it's 8523.40.

Do you ship it via Canada post letter mail?  I found the shipping cost really hurt.

Thanks,

eBay just gets stupider and stupider by the minute with its so called employees and customer service gone whacko...The complete ignorance and incompetence of these persons is overwhelmingly pathetic. Even a 5th grader has the brain cells and capability to read the eBay rules and policies and know what can and cannot be sold on this site. Perhaps its time to fire all these overpaid useless eBay personel and hire a crew of 5th graders who have the ambition and ability to the job, do it right and be proud of it!

Canada Post rules do not allow merchandise to be sent internationally with letter mail.  But a lot of sellers do use lettermail if the package is less than 2cm thic.   If it is mailed in an outside mail box rather than given to a postal clerk, there usually isn't a problem.  There is a risk that the item will be sent back to you by the post office but I don't know how often that happens.

Actually I think that the rule is now a Universal Postal Union rule but some sellers still do use lettermail for international goods.

@yw1782

Remember if you ship using Shippo to USA or Internationally the format is ###### without a dot or a dash. Shippo adds when it creates the label. If you add the dot or dash when you attempt to create the label you will receive an error message and stopped in your tracks until it's corrected. Unable to confirm for eBay Labels as I have never used. With the dot at canadapost dot ca.

That information page concerns domestic lettermail. @pjcdn2005’s post refers to international lettermail.

Wrong.  You can send cds and dvds using Lettermail:

Read your own link. Lettermail is for Canada only.

Lettermail™ is a convenient and cost-effective way to send items in Canada

Letter-post USA and Letter-post International is the equivalent of domestic Lettermail. Goods are prohibited in Letterpost.
