No worries for myself yet as I will not jump on the panic bandwagon...

whenever, whatever happens, I will do what I need to do for the circumstance...

In the meantime, 2 shipments dropped off at postal outlet today>one for western Canada and one to the USA..

Re: WELL WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING ABOUT MONDAY'S STRIKE

I normally don't look at tracking either unless it is an excessively expensive package like $1000. The past two weeks, I have been keeping an eye on my packages because I have been using different carriers that I have not used before (UPS, Stallion) and I want to know how well they perform. While checking my packages, I happened to notice the lack of Canada Post scans for the handful of packages that went Canada Post and were deposited without a scan.

I agree that looking at tracking is not worth it. Especially if you do a reasonably high volume. Your time is worth something, and the buyers have the tracking information. They can track it and reach out to you if there is an issue.

In terms of expensive packages like my $1000 example, it is good to keep an eye on them because if a buyer does open an INR, it usually doesn't give you enough time for a missing mail report to resolve itself, and eBay giving you an extension is never guaranteed. It's better to pre-emptively notice if USPS (or another carrier) has lost the package, so that you can intervene. You don't even have to message the buyer to clue them into there being a problem that they didn't know about, you can simply open a missing mail report between you and USPS, and if it has been stuck at a facility they will find it and get it back on route. Granted, I have never had to do that (knock on wood).

Doing that for every single package would be a huge waste of time.

Re: WELL WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING ABOUT MONDAY'S STRIKE

This is a long weekend for Canada Post. So if you're on the fence about Canada Post vs an alternate carrier, maybe wait until Tuesday to print any labels, just to see if there is any announcement about a strike.

Re: WELL WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING ABOUT MONDAY'S STRIKE

This is a long weekend for many folks beyond Canada Post itself and although I don't anticipate any sales over the next 3 days from either of my 2 selling sites, but should it happen... I will ship out on Tuesday whether or not there is any announcement by CP....

My most recent shipment to the USA was in Mississauga and being "forwarded to destination country" within 24 hours after leaving  Regina...

Re: WELL WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING ABOUT MONDAY'S STRIKE

I shipped out a package November 4th to the United Kingdom. It cleared Canada and landed in the UK on the buyer's doorstep November 8th.

I plan to keep selling as normal, until a full strike hits.

I'm sure there are alternative carriers I could use, but the backlog and wait time for my customers caused by the strike would not be welcome.

I know how ticked off I was when I ordered Christmas gifts at the start of November and they either didn't arrive in time or went missing.

Nothing, and have done nothing, and will continue to do nothing, as nothing will happen, other than the packages continuing to be delivered...

Canada Post intends to continue operating as strike notices received from CUPW

Canada Post has received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), for both Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units. The notices indicate that CUPW will be in a legal position to begin strike activity on November 15, at 12:01 am ET.

We know you need certainty at this critical time of year and understand the implications for your business. We value the trust you place in us to deliver and we are committed to providing you with timely updates and the details you need to make informed decisions.

Company provides notice to adjust operations while continuing to deliver

Canada Post has notified the union and CUPW-represented employees that unless new agreements are reached, the current collective agreements will no longer apply as of Friday.

The Corporation will then be in a position, using the means provided in the Canada Labour Code, to adjust operations based on its operational realities and business needs. A labour disruption would affect the millions of Canadians and businesses who rely on the postal service. It is critical that both parties focus their energies on resolving issues to reach negotiated agreements.

Working to minimize service delays

In the event CUPW initiates rotating strike activity, Canada Post intends to continue delivering for Canadians and Canadian businesses while working to reach agreements. The Corporation will work to minimize service disruptions, but customers may experience delays.

Mail and parcels flow through Canada Post’s highly integrated national network each day to get from sender to receiver. Shutting down facilities or regions with rotating strikes can cause immediate and prolonged ripple effects throughout the network.

Evolving to better meet your needs

To secure the future of the business and better serve our customers, the Corporation needs a more flexible and affordable delivery model that allows it to offer seven-day-a-week parcel delivery, with more competitive pricing and other important service improvements that meet the evolving needs of the market.

Stay up to date

We’ll notify you if there is a labour disruption of any kind, and keep you updated as the situation develops. We’ll post regular updates at canadapost.ca/negotiations.

this is what causes CP to do a lockout, to force a resolution.    Declining package volumes while still paying full wages just loses money faster.

If walk out occurs come this Friday Nov 15 i will just end all my listings, no point selling when you cant ship, and then if it goes for 2 weeks then all will be complaining after that they want items for hoilidays and surely be a ton of mail stuck in process. Only way i would sell during strike be if package tracked thus if its rotaing strikes then with tracking buyer can track where it be in mail process, otherwise not woth the headache if buyer/s want refunds and items have been mailed, and meanwhile Ebay rep will give you lame options, as they only care for $$$$ fees, just like sales tax being collected from buyers on used items, that should not be charged sales tax on use personal items as is it written under the Canadian Sales Tax rule.

That should be "egregiously inaccurate rant"!

Re: WELL WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING ABOUT MONDAY'S STRIKE

We were using UPS for all but select items, but still we have about a dozen cp items stuck until the strike is resolved. I haven't decided what to do yet, reship the ones we can using other services. Can I bill CP for the losses?

Re: WELL WHAT IS EVERYBODY DOING ABOUT MONDAY'S STRIKE

Thank you for letting us know what has aspired. Canada post should be a essential service. Canada post should never strike. CUPW you are going to put Canada Post out of bussiness. Then what!!

you have no pity from me you are only thinking of yourself not not all the small Bussiness you are hurting.

you are foricing small bussiness to look for other optioins. In the long run this will affect CUPW with latoffs due to lose of bussiness.

this is not a reflction on postal workers this is my opinion only.
